ScienceLogic Adds Environmental Monitoring Capability to Its EM7™ IT Management System

CHANTILLY, Va. - March 3, 2005

US DOT utilizes EM7 system’s intelligent sensors to monitor environmental variations and provide network alerts through the EM7 portal interface

ScienceLogic LLC today announced a new series of snap-on environmental monitoring devices for its EM7™ System, a relational IT management system powered by patent-pending technology that integrates IT management, security and compliance systems to dramatically improve the efficiency and accuracy of enterprise, network, and IT workflow management processes. The ScienceLogic Environmental Monitor is a plug-and-play appliance designed to monitor temperature, humidity, water leakage, air flow, voltage fluctuations, and other environmental factors in mission-critical IT facilities.

"When a major outage shut down our data center air conditioning unit, the facility heated up, taking down the servers and causing significant problems with our email and web infrastructure," said Steve Grewal, senior technology manager, U.S. Department of Transportation. "Soon thereafter, we installed ScienceLogic's Environmental monitoring product on our EM7 system, and we now have five different environmental monitors that automatically alert and page the IT team when any of the temperature, humidity, motion detector and smoke detector thresholds are exceeded. With the EM7 system's environmental monitoring solutions, we'll be able to correct the problem before the infrastructure fails."

The Environmental Monitor products utilize ScienceLogic's Instant Integration™ technology to incorporate the environmental monitoring capabilities into the EM7 System. In just minutes, IT professionals can begin receiving event information and notification alarms via the intuitive web-based portal interface of the EM7 System, based on customizable user-set thresholds.

There currently are four models of the Environmental Monitor, and a fifth offering with real-time full-motion video and VOIP will become available shortly. The different units are designed to provide organizations of all sizes with monitoring ability that meets their unique needs. "For example, a large company may need to monitor only temperature and humidity," said Louis DiMeglio, VP of products for ScienceLogic, "while a smaller shop also may need to keep watch over smoke detectors, motion detectors, and voltage fluctuations. For large facilities or for multiple geographic locations, ScienceLogic Environmental appliances can support multiple monitors," he said. "All the sensors automatically will be aggregated into a single view, with a series of proactive notification policies to efficiently manage the entire physical plant infrastructure at a fraction of the cost of traditional environmental monitoring systems."

Environmental Monitor Technical Specifications

The four models announced today feature varying numbers of ports that allow the connection of Intelligent and dry contact sensors. Intelligent Sensors are pre-built sensors that monitor a specific function: temperature, humidity, smoke detector, motion detector, etc. Dry contacts are a simple two-wire circuit that tells operators whether or not there is an open circuit, e.g. a door is open or closed or the AC is on or off.

Pricing and Availability

The ScienceLogic Environmental Monitor devices currently are available for sale directly from ScienceLogic or through ScienceLogic's authorized resellers.
